Can anyone please explain the process of airport connections???

This is my first time traveling alone so im really nervous and im only 16. My flight is from Colombia to Miami then Boston. When I arrive in Miami do I have to bring ALL my luggage somewhere for it to go in the next plane or do they just bring my luggage to the next plane without me having to do anything? I would also want some tips on different things. Thank you so much in advance!
