You need to make sure that the lyre is for the trombone. There are two types of lyres that are used. The first type has a rings that fits around the base of the mouthpiece with a section that extends out in front of you. Another type clamps onto the bell of the horn. Those, you can screw in until the rubber pieces hold the bell tight.
