We just took on a new dog and our old dog hates him, keeps attacking him. Please help?

i have a german shepard he has wobbily leg syndrom he can barley walk but he got into a fight with my pit bull and he was paralyzed for a week or so but hes much better today him and my pit bull get along what i did was every time the growled at each other tht usally means a fight will break out loud noises distracts dogs so when they growled i would bang a pot and the dogs would ignore each other also when taking them out together walk the far away from eachother if hitting has to happen i would advise it not hard in the snout but flicking would work right on the nose
